Blog

Welcome to Youthfund’s new and improved blog! Our first big event (besides the
resuscitation of the blog) in the Paradox 2011 Talent Quest. Paradox is specifically
tailored for musicians and performers between 13 and 18 years old, and is an amazing
opportunity for these performers to be recognized. It was organized by Raise Up North
Shore, part of the YMCA, and Youthfund is very proud to be financially supporting it.
Our board members are so excited to attend! We will be interspersed in the crowd, with
nifty little name badges so potential donators and beneficiaries can spot us. Paradox is on
Friday, July 8 in the Takapuna War Memorial Hall (by the library). It’s only $5, so come
and bring all of your friends! There is some true talent here, with an impressive lineup:
Bands:
Curse the Fallen
Louis McDonald
Best for Words
Billy’s Treehouse
Lambent Crisis
These Wicked Ways
Third System
Up In Smoke
Dancers:
GC Bollywood
Maddy and Shannon
Dant’e and Kim
BC Shidae
Dancing with a Difference
Singers/Rappers/Beat boxers:
Reagan and David

It will be awesome! Hope to see you there!

PARADOX 2011 Review

Just an update on the events of Youthfund…after the last post, several of the Youthfund board members (including Jonathan, Phillip, Gigi, Charlie, Amelia, and Michael) attended the Paradox Talent Quest! The event was made possibled by our funding, and it was so rewarding to see what our contribution had created. There were so many top-notch performances, ranging from dances to bands to beatboxing. A few of the performers seemed a bit nervous at first, but it seemed they all had a lot of fun. Since Paradox was a contest, there had to be winners: Billy’s Treehouse won third, Loius McDonald won second, and BC Bollywood won first. They all deserved their places, and well done to all performers!

Us board members had almost as much fun watching the show as the performers had giving it. Since we had helped make Paradox possible, Youthfund got to enjoy a little promotion; a hand stamp! Charlie and Gigi had a lot of fun stamping the hands of everyone attending, and even competed for the gutsiest stamp. In the end, the competition was declared a tie. People definitely remember our name thanks to that wonderful stamp! (Thanks to Michael for getting it made in the first place). Altogether, it was a really fun night.

For our next event, Youthfund is considering funding for a similar event. Keep checking back to the blog for updates!
